Le vrai nom de Gorrie \u00e9tait Alexander MacDonald. C\u2019\u00e9tait un voleur de b\u00e9tail notoire qui utilisait la grotte comme repaire. <\/p>\n\n

En tant que survivant de la bataille de Culloden, il \u00e9tait d\u00e9termin\u00e9 \u00e0 assassiner le Duc de Cumberland, commandant des Redcoats, pour se venger des pertes subies par les membres de son clan durant la bataille.<\/p>\n\n

\u00c0 l\u2019aff\u00fbt sur la colline, il vit une occasion se pr\u00e9senter quand le Duc et ses troupes pass\u00e8rent tout pr\u00e8s. Le tromblon de Gorrie \u00e9tait rempli de plombs et de clous. Il resta cach\u00e9 en attendant que le Duc apparaisse dans son champ de tir. <\/p>\n\n

Malheureusement pour Gorrie, il tira mal et manqua sa cible. Il se retourna imm\u00e9diatement pour fuir dans sa grotte et fut poursuivi par les soldats des Redcoats qui le perdirent de vue dans la bruy\u00e8re. <\/p>\n\n

Il parvint \u00e0 rester cach\u00e9 dans la grotte pendant plusieurs mois gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 la nourriture et aux vivres que son \u00e9pouse et d\u2019autres villageois lui apport\u00e8rent. Les Redcoats finirent par abandonner leur recherche et le r\u00e9cit ne dit pas ce que devint ce fugitif de la justice sommaire de Cumberland. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
