Un monje del Fort Augustus utiliz\u00f3 uno de los primeros trajes de buceo para estudiar su estructura, que fundamentalmente consiste en \u00e1rboles entrecruzados para crear los cimientos. <\/p>\n\n<p>Se levant\u00f3 como construcci\u00f3n defensiva. Los pictos constru\u00edan sus hogares en las islas con pasarelas de acceso hasta la orilla. Estas pasarelas, adem\u00e1s de ofrecer protecci\u00f3n frente a los animales salvajes y facilitar la pesca, eran muy f\u00e1ciles de defender. Cualquier enemigo que decidiera atacar ten\u00eda dificultades para acceder y, en la mayor\u00eda de los casos, tan solo robar\u00eda algunos animales y seguir\u00eda su camino.
