Die H\u00f6hle diente ihm als Unterschlupf.  <\/p>\n\n<p>Als \u00dcberlebender der Schlacht von Culloden war er fest entschlossen, den Herzog von Cumberland, Befehlshaber der Rotr\u00f6cke, zu ermorden, um so die seinen Clanmitgliedern beigebrachte Niederlage zu r\u00e4chen.<\/p>\n\n<p>Er legte sich an einem Berghang auf die Lauer. Sein Augenblick schien gekommen, als der Herzog mit seinen Truppen vorbeizog. Gorries Donnerb\u00fcchse war voll geladen mit Schrot und N\u00e4geln. Er hielt sich versteckt, bis der Herzog in Schussweite kam.   <\/p>\n\n<p>Zu Gorries Ungl\u00fcck gab er einen schlechten Schuss ab, der sein Ziel verfehlte. Er machte auf dem Absatz kehrt, um seine H\u00f6hle aufzusuchen, wurde dabei von Rotr\u00f6cken verfolgt, die auf der Heide jedoch seine Spur verloren.  <\/p>\n\n<p>Es gelang ihm, monatelang unentdeckt in der H\u00f6hle zu bleiben, w\u00e4hrend ihm seine Frau und andere Dorfbewohner Nahrung und andere Vorr\u00e4te brachten. Schlie\u00dflich gaben die Rotr\u00f6cke die Suche auf.
